Nettlecreek-Brookwood Relief Sewer
Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District

The project is located in the Grand Glaze Creek Watershed in the City of Town and Country. The general area extends from Thornhill Drive along Nettlecreek Drive. The project consists of the replacement of approximately 1,500 feet of 10-inch diameter pipe with 18-inch diameter, 15-house connection and 6-trapped street inlets. The majority of the existing pipe consists almost entirely of vitrified clay pipe that were in very poor condition.

Designing of the Sanitary Relief Sewer presented site management, engineering, and design issues. Most important, careful attention to technical coordination of the impact of subsurface utilities as well as landscaped features required AFRAM Corporation to coordinate reviews and approvals by all affected regulatory agencies having jurisdiction over the site. AFRAM applied its management philosophy in a manner that insured each agency reviewed the preliminary and final engineering and construction documents during each phase of the design process. The extensive field experience of our engineers and architects insured that a baseline construction schedule was approved only when the Contractor’s schedule delineated a well-thought out sequencing of the construction that would not disrupt the flow of traffic along the various sections of Mack Avenue that had to remain in service. Ultimately, this reconstructed section of Mack Avenue aesthetically blends with the Chrysler Plant and other businesses in the area.
